Joseph Gawler Pashmina Cashmere Vest
Joseph Gawler Pashmina Cashmere Vest
I worked on this vest for about 5 months and just finished it. The pattern combines ribbing and seed stitch and is based upon a Sirdar pattern Jacqui sells at WoolWinders. I used size 4 and 6 Addi turbo needles and the yarn glided through the stitchwork.

John's Braided Mischief Scarf
John's Braided Mischief Scarf
John proudly displays his Scarf Styles' Braided Mischief Scraf knitted in Debbie Bliss' Silk Alpaca yarn. It was fun to knit (although it takes a lot of yarn due to all the cables). The yarn is soft and warm.

Judy's Felted Yoga Mat
Judy's Felted Yoga Mat
Here, Judy models the felted yoga mat bag that I knit for her out of Manos del Uruguay yarn. Judy has traveled all over the world for yoga and I thought this was the perfect gift when I saw it in Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joele Halverson of Purl Soho fame. There is an error in the pattern and the errata is located here. Judy was quite surprised to see the travel case. I hope she brings it with her to exotic yoga locations all over the world.

Julie's Felted Bag
Julie's Felted Bag
I made this bag for Julie out of Noro's Kureyon yarn. The pattern is not complicated - essentially 40 knit rounds and then binding off half the stitches and continuing to knit the flap. Simple I-cord. To give the bag some substance, I held two skeins of yarn together. I took the time to match up the colors. Felted "al dente". Picture of Julie modeling the yarn to follow when she sends it to me.

Gonzalo's Hat
I knit a hat for Gonzalo that would match the one I made for John Feldman but Gonzalo's wife grabbed it for herself. Here Jen models the Noro Transition's hat while horseback riding over the Xmas holidays.

Alicia's Shawl
Alicia's Shawl
I made Alicia this shawl as a holiday gift, thinking the colors were just perfect for her. The shawl is knit in Colinette's Zanziba and Mohair yarns following their Winterther pattern from their Comforts book. It features a twisted double drop stitch which was fun to knit and an eye popper. Alicia is holding a pin to clasp the shawl when she wears it.

Transitions
Transitions
I finished up matching hats for John and Gonzalo using Noro's Transition yarn and a standard hat pattern. The yarn changes fibers as it changes colors and includes silk, wool, angora and other fibers. The hat is pretty interesting both in look and feel. And pretty warm.

John's Sweater
John's Sweater
In July, I was presented with this suit as a gift from one of my law partners. Since then, I've been working on a suitable "thank you" and today presented John with a sweater knit up in Noro's Silk Garden yarn (the sleeves use Debbie Bliss' Cashmerino Aran as a contrast color). The sweater doesn't quite fit John the same way my custom suit does but John was a good sport and wore it around the office all day.

Jill's Fuzzy Koigu Scarf
Jill's Fuzzy Koigu Scarf
The first scarf I have designed myself. I held Koigu's premium merino wool varigated yarn together with a mohair that matched color and knit a seed stitch on Size 11 needles. The result is perfect for Jill. I am going to submit the pattern to a publisher that is looking for 365 patterns for a 2006 calendar.

Blanket (1st) for the Fowler Twins
Blanket (1st) for the Fowler Twins
OUr close friends, Margo and Andrew Fowler, are the proud parents of two twin boys, Nelson and Colin. Over the past six months, I have been knitting two baby blankets furiously (among other projects) for the twins: They are made from Debbie Bliss' Cashmerino Aran. The darker blue is the Ann Norling ladder stitch blanket. The lighter blue blanket is from Ann Norling's yarn over blanket pattern. Jacqui made two sweaters from Mission Falls 1824 Cotton, which are displayed on the WoolWinders website.

Sekimori Scarves
Sekimori Scarves
have put these in the mail today for Stacy and Robyn over at Sekimori. They are the web designers who are putting together Version 2.0 of the Woolwinders web site. This version will be a combination of Movable Type and OsCommerce. Stacy and Robyn have been working pretty hard on the project. Robyn is the MT guru and is well on her way to delivering a new baby ( in addition to WoolWinders new "baby"). Stacy was eager to build her first OsCommerce shopping cart. I am not sure she is all that eager to build a second one. Hopefully, Robyn likes her blue jay scarf and Stacy likes hers. For those knitters who are interested, the scarves are made of Colinette Isis yarn. The blue one is called Jay. The other one is called [ ]. I knit the redish one first on size 10.5 needles, casting on 19 stitches, and using a seed stitch. For the blue one, I used size 10 needles and only cast on 17 stictches, and used a seed stitch. One skein each.

I finished my first sweater and it just returned from Marina, who sewed it together for me. It is made out of Tahki Cotton Classic and came out a bit large. I plan to wash it and dry it and then it should fit pretty nicely.

!st Knitting Project
!st Knitting Project
Before WoolWinders opened, and for a few weeks after it opened, when asked if I knit I would respond with a definitive no. But after several weeks working the cash register at the store, it became obvious that this was the wrong answer. Our customers would just tune me out. So, Jacqui taught me how to knit. For my first project, I selected Blue Sky Alpaca's Silk Alpaca yarn in grey. Holding two strands together, I knit, knit, knit my way through six balls of yarn. The process was ugly; my edges were ragged, I had a few holes, and my stitchwork was quite uneven. But it was better at the end than at the start, and Jacqui gamely fixed all my wrap arounds, dropped stitches, and other errors. Our finisher crocheted an edge and Jacqui added the tassles. Very nice. Of course, I wear it at the store when I work the cash register. Now, when asked, I say "Yes. I knit this." And our customers smile. Of course, it helps when you sleep with the teacher.
