!st Knitting Project
Before WoolWinders opened, and for a few weeks after it opened, when asked if I knit I would respond with a definitive no. But after several weeks working the cash register at the store, it became obvious that this was the wrong answer. Our customers would just tune me out. So, Jacqui taught me how to knit. For my first project, I selected Blue Sky Alpaca's Silk Alpaca yarn in grey. Holding two strands together, I knit, knit, knit my way through six balls of yarn. The process was ugly; my edges were ragged, I had a few holes, and my stitchwork was quite uneven. But it was better at the end than at the start, and Jacqui gamely fixed all my wrap arounds, dropped stitches, and other errors. Our finisher crocheted an edge and Jacqui added the tassles. Very nice. Of course, I wear it at the store when I work the cash register. Now, when asked, I say "Yes. I knit this." And our customers smile. Of course, it helps when you sleep with the teacher.
